CONTINUUM 12: Melbourne Speculative Fiction Convention June 10-13 2016

Continuum is an annual fan run speculative fiction and pop culture convention. From science-fiction to epic fantasy and everything in between, Continuum 12 will celebrate the theme “Stranger Than Fiction”. Continuum runs every year on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend. In 2016 the convention will be held between June 10-13 at the Hotel Jasper in Melbourne’s CBD.

Run by fans for fans, Continuum features a great line up of writers and artists at the Hotel Jasper in Melbourne. The guests of honor at the convention will be Queenie Chan and Kylie Chan.

Not sure if Continuum speculative fiction convention is for you? Try it out on Friday night for the cost of a gold coin. Panels and events run from 5-11pm on Friday night. You can find out more about the program here.

What happens at a convention?

If you’ve never been to a convention like Continuum before, each day features discussion panels where writers, artists and fans talk about subjects related to speculative fiction, whether that’s writing tips on creating dystopias to debating the best Dr Who episode.

Alongside the panels, we host book launches, informal coffee catch-ups with guests of honor and our epic Maskobalo, a Saturday night fancy dress extravaganza. It’s a great way to meet like minded people, and there are plenty of opportunities to socialise informally outside of the main events.

Theme: Stranger Than Fiction

This year’s theme will explore the many aspects of fandom, including:

  • Comics & Graphic Novels
  • Writing
  • Cosplay
  • TV Shows and movies
  • LARP (including Swordcraft)
  • Tabletop & Online RPGs
  • Filk/Filking
  • Anime

How can I get involved?

To participate in Continuum, all you need to do is purchase a membership. An adult membership for the whole weekend costs $250, which includes access to all panels and a ticket to the maskobalo. Day passes are also available closer to the date. So what are you waiting for? Buy your membership here.

Continuum is run on a not-for-profit basis and all revenue goes towards venue and equipment hire, transport and accommodation for our guests, and other convention specific expenses. Continuum conventions are supported by the Continuum Foundation.
