We hope you are all having a great start to the year. We’ve been very busy over here at Continuum HQ and this month we have LOTS of information for you as everything starts to pull together.
Some of you will have already seen that the Ditmars are now open for nominations, which is very exciting. Nominations will be accepted up until 19th March – just under a month away! You can read all the details here on our website, but one of the key criteria to nominate is to have either full or supporting membership to C13. If you haven’t purchased yours yet, you can do so online through TryBooking here. If you’re unsure whether your membership makes you eligible to vote, you can contact us on email@example.com and we’ll double check for you.
Another exciting announcement is our short story competition, sponsored by Australian Science Fiction Foundation! Entries are now being accepted for both the amateur short story competition. This year’s theme is The Fears We Love. There will be prizes for 1st – 3rd place in both the Open (18+) and Junior (<18) categories, and the winning entries will be published in the conbook.
We are also running a twitter-based 13 word competition, with the same theme. A short list will published in the conbook, with the winner to be announced at the convention.
For more information about both competitions and how to enter, please head over to the website.
For those that haven’t booked accommodation as yet, Jasper Hotel have kindly provided us with a discount code – continuum13. Entering the code will allow you get a room rate of $160/night for all room types.
If you have any problems with booking, please contact Jasper Hotel directly.
Cake is good, and not a lie. We spent a productive afternoon eating delicious cheesecake and going through suggestions for new panels. Drinks were drunk. A steak sandwich was consumed. We marvelled at the creativity and enthusiasm of Continuum attendees.
In case you missed it, just before Christmas, we released the first batch of panels requiring speakers. Check it out here and look out for updates in February.
And now, a word about workshops!
We’re excited about some of the workshops we’ll be offering this year, from the craft of writing short stories to the art of character development. Sign up sheets should be coming in the next month.
Tickets for Beauty and the Beast on March 24 will be made available closer to the date – keep an eye on the Facebook and Twitter pages for more information. Also look out for details about Lego Batman on April 2.
Details are being finalised for our super spectacular trivia night at the end of April. Start brushing up on your pop culture knowledge, you’re going to need it!
On the first Saturday of every month, we host a board games day at Wood’n’Chimney in Melbourne Central from 12pm onwards. We’d love for you to all join us for some games, some food, and lots of laughs.
